Grandma talks about sprinkling her clothes in her 1943 entry. In those days, they sprinkled the clothes and wrapped them up tightly so the moisture would evenly penetrate the cloth. Then when they ironed, the job was much easier. You just needed to wait a few hours or overnight at most. Many is the woman who forgot her clothes and remembered them only in time to find them mildewed.
