1943 post: In the oil drilling industry there is a term called “spudding.” To spud comes from the Middle English word, “spudde” meaning a short knife. In oil drilling “spudding” means the very start of drilling on a new well.

1945 We got the telephone Hooked up today & I walked up Rose & tried to get an appointment. Daddy slept.

I tried to find 5418 Summerdale in Compton California. There is an E Summerdale Street in East Compton that I found on City-Data.com which is numbered 5400 to 5499 so the address should be there but Google Earth does not recognize it. Her notes in the front of the diary show that they lived here exactly two months.
1942 Dad went to work at 3. oclock. He Didn’t work yesterday so- Marie left at 8 Oclock. Ill sure Miss her. Today is sunday.
1943 Left House at 5. Oclock got to L.B. at 10, Looked all day for place found one at Hermosa just a hole in the wall. But!
